Every type in your schedule is drawn at the same scale. Green dashed triangles point to the hinge side, orange arrows show what slides or lifts, red dots are fire ratings.
How to use the schedule maker
- Fill in the project name, address and date for the title block.
- Edit the sample rows or click Clear all, then Add door and Add window. Use +1 on a row to copy it.
- Pick the type first. The swing or operation list changes to match, and the drawing at the top updates as you type.
- Click Print / Save PDF and choose "Save as PDF" as the printer. The print layout is landscape with a title block, both tables, the quantity summary and the elevations. Click Download CSV for a spreadsheet.
Reading the drawing
Each distinct door or window type is drawn at one common scale, with doors standing on the floor line and windows hanging from a common head line at 6 ft 8 in or the tallest window. The dashed green triangle on a swing door or casement points to the hinge side, as drawn on a conventional elevation. The small plan symbol under a swing door shows the arc of the door. "LH" and "RH" mean left-hand and right-hand as you face the door from the side it swings toward; "in" and "out" are relative to the house. Sliders show X for the operable panel and O for a fixed one, viewed from the outside. Always confirm handing and swing against your plans.
Rough opening allowances and where they come from
A rough opening is the framed hole in the wall. It has to be a little bigger than the door or window so you can plumb, level and shim it. The numbers in this tool are common rules of thumb: add 2 in to the width and 2-1/2 in to the height of a single prehung door, about 1/2 in each way for a window, 2 × width + 1 in by height + 4-1/2 in for a single pocket door, and about 2 in each way for a sliding patio door or bifold. They are editable because brands differ. For a real order use the rough opening printed in the manufacturer's installation instructions.

Common questions
How are the tags numbered?
Doors are numbered D101, D102 and so on in the order they appear in the table, and windows W101, W102 and so on. Change the starting number (101 by default) in the project box. Tags update when you add, remove or reorder rows, so print after you are finished.
How is the rough opening calculated?
The rough opening is the framed hole, so it is larger than the unit. The defaults are typical: a prehung swing door is width + 2 in by height + 2-1/2 in (a 36 × 80 in door needs a 38 × 82-1/2 in opening), windows are + 1/2 in each way (36 × 60 in becomes 36-1/2 × 60-1/2 in), a pocket door is 2 × width + 1 in by height + 4-1/2 in, and a 6 ft sliding glass door is about 2 in larger each way. You can edit every allowance, and you should confirm them against the manufacturer's installation drawing.
What do the default sample rows show?
The sample schedule has 6 doors and 6 windows in 9 different types (6 door types and 3 window types), with 78 sq ft of window frame area. Click Clear all to start from an empty schedule, or edit the sample rows.
What is the share link, and why does it warn me?
Every row is written into one compact value in the page address so you can send the link. Long schedules make a long address, and some apps and browsers cut off links over about 2,000 characters. The tool warns at about 1,800 characters. For a large schedule, use Print / Save PDF or the CSV file instead.
Do I need fire-rated doors?
A door between an attached garage and the house must be solid wood or solid or honeycomb-core steel at least 1-3/8 in thick, or a 20-minute fire door (IRC R302.5.1). Other fire ratings come from your plans and local code, for example at dwelling-unit separations. Enter the rating from your plans in the Fire column.
Is the schedule a drawing set?
No. It is a planning and communication tool that lists the openings you enter. Sizes, rough openings, glazing and fire ratings must be checked against the manufacturer's data, your plans and your local building department.
